    In a majority Buddhist country, a person of another religion or race being elected as the president is highly unlikely, and would be against the betterment of the majority. Well sarath foneska didn't have the right to vote, cuz he didnt register for it :S

    Yeah well, when his running for presidentship he runs as a Sinhalese Buddhist. Thats what matters, and in this case Mr Amarthunga as the opposition leader becomes a direct candidate to become the president, so thats where the problem arises.

    Well as far as i know, in Sri Lanka the president also directly becomes the main caretaker of the sacred tooth relic. Therefore to my knowledge a non Buddhist cannot be a president. And there is something in the Constitution about having no non-Sinhalese president.
