These graphs can differ because of the phase lag obviously. But KardiaMobile and many other diagnostic devices uses custom algorithms to get a higher degree of accuracy to the true values. The accuracy of the KardiaMobile algorithm measured independently is quoted as sensitivity of 88% (95% CI 32.3%-99.1%) and a specificity of 97.2% (95% CI 95.1%-98.5%)

If you have surface electrodes, you can just attach to the chest area and use a simple data acquisition device to get a graphical display on a computer.
