It is with utmost sadness we introduce ‘Oliver’ to you. He was born inside a market in Moratuwa as a stray and has spent half of his life there when we were introduced to him. He used to be well adjusted to the market life as he was fed and never kicked out by people there. We were also told that he has done the job of a well trained security guard too. He was mostly loved, fed and taken care by the Market Supervisor.
Last Saturday during the sterilization Camp at Katubadda, Mr Sanjeewa the Supervisor came to meet us and told about Oliver’s condition. We were shocked to hear how he survived all this time with such a horrible wound. Mr Sanjeewa then immediately rushed and brought Oliver to the sterilization area. Just look at him. We suspect it may have happened while he was mating and people have tried to separate them. We do not know if was done out of a cruel intention or to prevent an unwanted litter but this simply is a horrible case of animal cruelty.
We gave him painkillers and cleaned the wound before sent we him to the Vet Hospital the same day and boarded him for further treatments. Vet gave us some positive signs about his treatments and recovery and we will keep all of you posted on his condition from time to time.
Please inbox Iraki Kodithuwakku or Ray of Hope Sri Lanka if you would like to chip in for Oliver’s treatments. With boarding, pet taxi and other medication we believe it may cost us about Rs 40,000/- approximately. Extra donations left will be utilized for another rescue or sterilization.
