Pay was low, but when you get paid, for doing nothing, that's not bad. Just after my bond period expired, there was a voluntary retirement scheme (with compensation, of course) and I took full advantage and retired at the age of 24.    Then I joined a private company, which was a Belgium/Sri Lankan company, controlled by foreign top management.  Work hours means working, we have to be in office on time, and work full 8 hours, but get paid very well.    My third job was in a fully government owned company, which I would stay all my life  with a good pay, all government benefits and freedom, if I choose to stay in S/L.   I am not sure about the present situation in govt/semi govt/private sector work or their salaries, benefits etc, but a semi government job was my choice at that time.</blockquote>
