Air India Ahmedabad Plane Crash News Live: An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on the afternoon of June 12, 2025. The aircraft plunged into Ahmedabad’s Meghani area, triggering a massive explosion and thick black smoke due to its heavy fuel load for the long-haul flight. Onboard were 242 people—230 passengers, 2 pilots (Capt Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar), and 10 cabin crew members.
Emergency services—including fire engines, ambulances, police, and six NDRF teams—were rushed to the scene for rescue operations. A MAYDAY call was reportedly made by the pilot before communication was lost. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation, and Boeing may also join the probe.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel have responded to the tragedy, coordinating relief efforts and assuring full central support. CM Patel confirmed the setup of a green corridor for swift medical care of survivors. Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed sorrow over the incident and assured ongoing support to victims' families, while the airline’s official channels continue to provide updates.
Following the crash, all operations at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport have been suspended until further notice. Passengers have been advised to check with airlines for travel updates.
