India has this policy called Neighbourhood First. Geopolitically India has bigger concerns on China. They don't want another pro-china government in Sri Lanka. In near future, the future of the world would be decided by China or India. Both countries are competing for the international trade. It happens mostly through sea routes and the shipping routes go through the Indian ocean. If India has a tight control over Indian ocean China loose it's power in trade. Similarly if China has some power in Indian ocean, India looses it's power. whoever gets to win the competition would be the next superpower. So, they definitely come to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a bigger concern to India than Pakistan nowadays.
