    XBB is a recombinant of BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75 sublineages.
    BQ.1 is a sublineage of BA.5, which carries spike mutations in some key antigenic sites, including K444T and N460K. In addition to these mutations, the sublineage BQ.1.1 carries an additional spike mutation in a key antigenic site (i.e. R346T).

    Data suggest that most serum obtained ~7.5 months after BA.1 breakthrough infection would hardly neutralize BQ.1.1 and XBB.

    Probable origin West or Central Africa. From the mutations and initial lab results, there is concern that Omicron 22E may have an increased ability to evade existing immunity.
    (Note: lineage BQ.1 and descendants (most notably BQ.1.1) known as clade 22E, labelled as "22E (Omicron))
    Thus it can escape the monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) Evusheld and Bebtelovimab, making clinically available mAbs as of October 2022 likely ineffective against the variant.

    It has a high infection rate... But the Health Ministry of Singapore states that there has been no evidence that the XBB variant causes more serious illness than previous variants. In fact, they say the hospitalisation is 30% lower than BA.5
    Also no increase in the Death rate.

    There should be zero death rate for this simple illness.

    If there are deaths in singapore due to this simple illness , then science is a terrific failure. 😆
