Bullet-proof Range Rovers galore
It is learnt that as soon as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was ousted, at least two super-luxury bullet-proof Range Rovers were airlifted from the United Kingdom and were seen on the BIA tarmac last Tuesday.
According to sources, these are reportedly Range Rover Sentinels, a luxury armoured vehicle manufactured by the Special Vehicle Operations Division for the election campaign of a VVIP from the Hambantota District.
According to Land Rover, hand-built at Land Rover’s Oxford Road facility in the UK, the Sentinel is based on the standard wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography and provides the highest levels of protection an SUV can offer.
Designed to withstand the most damaging and targeted threats, the vehicle is verified to VR8 standard against ballistic threats, meaning it can withstand armour piercing incendiary bullets and the blast from DM51 grenade explosions. In plainer terms, the Sentinel is built to shrug off rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle or survive a lateral blast from a duffle bag full of explosives. In addition to this level of security the Range Rover Sentinel retains Land Rover’s huge breadth of capability and uncompromised levels of luxury and refinement.
