- Saliva contains enzymes that break down food, that also have the ability to kill sperm. So, if you’re trying to get pregnant, don’t introduce saliva into the mix before intercourse (do I have to spell it out? No oral sex before intercourse)
- Many commercial lubricants contain spermicides or have a spermicidal effect, so if you’d like to get pregnant, avoid commercial lubricants
- You can use a “fertility lubricant” that will not only keep sperm alive but will actively help them travel to their destination
- Avoid synthetic or scented tampons as well. Both can change your pH and make it hostile to sperm
- Don’t introduce soap into your bedroom routine as some soaps can act as spermicides
- There are some natural fertility herbs on the market for both women and men that may help with conception. I have tried the Fertile CM and found that it effectively does what it claims to do
- Many doctors recommend doing a cleanse before conceiving because it helps create a healthy environment for conception
- Maintain a normal body weight, neither too thin nor too fat
- Limit caffeine consumption (there have been some studies linking caffeine with miscarriage and infertility)
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Walk or do moderate exercise 30 minutes a day
- Men should avoid hot baths and hot tubs
- Men with low sperm counts or motility should talk to their doctors about whether avid cycling is contributing to the problem
