I work with a Tamil person, who is a great colleague, good team player and an asset to the workplace.
However, every time we hangout outside the workplace, and are having any normal conversation, she has to ruin it by taking any regular piece of news and making it anti-Tamil.
Okay, we get it. TN has been neglected, Tamil history is not taught in our schools and many Indians are ignorant about the awesomeness of your culture.
And yes, you have a right to be proud of your culture.
However, you do not have the right to feel threatened about your pride every fucking minute.
Now, every time we are hanging out, it is a diverse group. We have 2 Telugu boys, one Bengali, 3 Hindi Speakers, 1 Sikh guy and 1 Tamil girl. This is fun, until our Tamil friend throws shade at all of us for being anti-Tamil.
Our manager is a Kannadiga (old guy, soft spoken, great worker). Our Tamil colleague hates him because he is anti-Tamil. Why? All Kannadigas are anti-Tamil.
Our Telugu friend shared a joke in our group, in Hinglish. Our Tamil friend took it as a personal offence, even after we translated it to her. Relax man, its just a WhatsApp forward.
She frequently talks about how Tamils need their own country because India has always been anti-Tamil. Some things that come out of her mouth are plain bizzare.
Modi is anti-Tamil. He killed Jayalalitha.
All Kannadigas hate Tamilians because they are jealous of Tamilians
Justin Troudeau wished Happy Pongal in Tamil and Modi didn't therefore Modi hates every Tamil person
That Hindi speaking person is speaking in his mother tongue Hindi, therefore he is anti-Tamil
The Sikh guys says Rajanikanth is funny, and his movies are over the top, so all Sikhs are anti-Tamil.
Indira Gandi was anti-Tamil
There has never been a Tamil PM, we want our own country

It is exhausting to talk to her, it is impossible to have a normal conversation with her without she mentioning Tamil pride.
So my dear Tamil friends, we don't hate you. Be proud of your culture. Share your history with us. Share your food with us. Educate us about your great state, tell us how awesome it is.
But please, stop accusing us of being anti-Tamil.
Nobody in North India wakes up and says "Today I will work for 8 hours then hate Tamil people for 2 hours". Nobody cares. Nobody is out to harm you.
At the end of the day we are all just people.
