Not to mention Katunayaka expressway which is going through a natural habitat of birds. Same goes to elephant human crisis. Almost everyday you can hear that elephants have raided human colonies. That is because humans have blocked there natural pathways of migration. Like elephants, birds will alter there course of migration accordingly. I have red somewhere that Katunayaka airport also had that same problem at the beginning.

Polonnaruwa/Anuradhapura- got many ancient sites. An airport will affect badly to those sites. And most areas have undiscovered sites. What happen when if such site was discovered during an airport construction?. And as I mentioned earlier, very far from a port. To construct an airport on those areas, many changes would be needed.
