Most extraordinary places to stay in the world .......
1: Mihir Garh...
The sandcastle-like Mihir Garh sits in complete isolation amid the Thar Desert near Jodhpur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It took 150 masons, artisans and craftsmen two years to build what the owners describe as ‘a dream realised'. Despite its ancient appearance the hotel was only built in 2009. The name means 'fort of the sun' and each of the hotel's nine suites spans at least 1,700 square feet
The sprawling hotel is made up of just nine extravagant suites which all come with their own private jacuzzi’s or plunge pool. The owners of the hotel say the Mihir Garh 'redefines the word indulgence' But despite the luxurious surroundings prices start at £163-a night full board
The fort-like hotel sits completely isolated in the middle of the desert. The flooring of each room has been crafted using a special plastering technique known to only one man in the entire Jodhpur region. He along with a lone assistant put in hours of work in creating the palatial flooring which spans the entire building
Despite the hotel's massive footprint there are only nine suites for guests to choose from, ranging in price from £163-£350 a night full board. The fort has been designed and conceived using as many natural materials as possible. Use of chemicals were avoided to keep the look and feel of the fort as close to rural Rajasthan as possible
