Let me try to explain.You say we don't need to accept. That I agree. Even if you don't "need to" but you might "want to". For example take this. How do you know your mother (biological/birth mother) is truly your mother?Did you witness your birth from your mother's womb ?Do you remember her face and you coming out from her ?Is it because she and others told you so ?Is it because your birth certificate tells you so ?Or is it her loving kindness that made you believe ?Where is the direct experience? Where is the direct knowledge? Even in the absence of any direct evidence, almost all of us believe that our legal mother is our biological mother. Even the adopted children believe so unless thay are convinced otherwise.Like this we believe "shit" most of our lives just because someone said so. We tend to believe some while we disregard some. IMO this is done one the basis of practicality. Practicality is usually geard towards a goal. People have different goals in their lives. Secular goals such as material wealth and happiness are in stark contrast with Buddhist goal that is Nibbana. If you feel a conflict in accepting such beliefs, maybe you should investigate what goals you truly have for your self. In there you will find the answer.
