There's always an element of risk associated with balloon rides. It's licensed operators who run these things but accidents do happen. Unpredictable weather, fire and entanglements with power lines etc presents some risk.

Sometimes you have to opt for these rides. The last time I did one was in Egypt, over the Valley of Kings. It was a beautiful ride starting around 6 AM for a bit over an hour and a half. I made sure to select a reputed operator but in Egypt you cant really rely on their claims.

You need mutations that can thrive in new environments. And remove the normal population that does not have an advantage over the new environment. Since humans already have high intelligence, such mutations will not happen. Because we can build machines to overcome those challenges, hence there's no mechanism to remove unwanted genes. So our evolution is slowed down compared to other species.

I think they all sign a waiver as these are 'adventure' or 'high adrenaline ' events. eg Ocengate debacle.
So there is trade off between all the precautions and minimum safety requirements.
Accidents do happen in all these , even on adventure parks, helirides, etc. It is mostly when cutting corners these things happen or due to negligence of one or more.
