Reptiles do not immediately die like mammals when decapitated. Their heads continue to live for a long period. There are many cases where the severed head of a rattlesnakes biting the killer hand long after decapitation. Their brains remain viable for about an hour. They are cold blooded animals with slow metabolisms.
It's not humane to kill snakes this way and that's why many are against snake farming for skin trade.

The body will not feel pain without a brain. It's the brain that interprets the pain. Nociception is the nerves’ response to stimuli, while pain is the subjective experience we have when our brain interprets the signals from these nerves.
