When you wrote about what happened in younger days, I recollect what happened to me a few years ago. I was on a visit to the University of Toronto for one week for some work related matter. On the second day of my arrival there around lunch time I was strolling around the Medical Sciences Building for a walk. Many people walking around and one passing lady smiled at me. I smiled back and continued my walk quite leisurely. A few minutes later I heard footsteps and looked back to see that lady running towards me. I stopped, she came to me and said "Can you remember me?"
She was a Chinese lady. I replied... Sorry Madam, I am not from Toronto and I am only here for a visit. She enquired "You are from SriLanka?" I said yes but you are surely mistaken, as I have never seen you in my life. Then she addressed me by my first name. I was quite surprised. She went on, Don't you really remember me? I said honestly No...
Then she said "I was with you on the same bench for four years in the Sunday Dhamma School". At that time both of us were kids under 9 years. I remembered that there was a Chinese girl who later disappeared. She was the daughter of the Chinese Dental works guys in the town who happened to live near to our place.
She continued.. and said "I used to go to your place after Dhamma school on Sunday, your mother always gives me lunch. When we left for Singapore she gave me a pendant and a dress. I still remember that and still have the pendant too"
I was really stunned. Both of us have never seen each other for several decades. I have changed a lot, how on earth that she remembered my face and the name.... It was way beyond belief.
They have left for Singapore and then later migrated to Canada. She works part time for UToronto. Her mother is living and she said her mom would be delighted to see me and invited me for dinner. She's in touch from that day onwards.
How strange and how small the World we live in..........
