Looks like I was spot on about Thorz. Sithija Fernando who has previously worked with him has revealed that EMF happened under the patronage of the Lansa family, which should tell you all you need to know about money laundering. As an event designer, I knew things didn't add up right after the event. Let me explain why EMF looked fishy.
Event Branding. From its conception, it felt like Thorz was putting things together on the fly. The logo was plagiarised at first and the event branding kept changing. He isn't an art director and never had one. There was no creative vision and as a design guy that was the first red flag for me.
Stage Design. It seems Thorz is unaware that event design and event management are two different careers within the event industry. Look up any major international event, you can easily find who the event designer was. EMF has no singular credit because the design was shopped around with the designers never being paid. There are posts from those who designed the EMF stage about this. Thorz claims that it was his "concept" but apparently isn't smart enough to understand that concept and execution are two different things.
Event Costs. SL had its fair share of musical festivals. It won't take an hour for an operations manager to put a cost sheet because everything you need (except for the performing artists) are fixed costs. A large speaker or a moving head light costs the same regardless. End of the day, the number of sellable tickets should make sense against that cost sheet. But with EMF, it didn't and many local event organizers flagged this. Thorz simply brushed them aside saying haters. Now we know why. Making a profit was never an intention with this event. This is why I believe he pushed an event tourism narrative. අන්තිමේට සුද්දෝ කියල වැඩිපුර හිටියේ perform කරපු artistsල විතරයි.
Event Timeline. It realistically takes at least 6 months for a large scale event to be made from concept to production. Gov't approvals alone can take up to 2 months. But EMF happened within a span of a few weeks, which means he had Gov't support from the inside and helped fast track things. He admits that he also had the direct help from the Ministry of Tourism. Thorz is more than welcome to share the project proposal he shared with the ministry to say that this will bring down Tourism (lol).
Event Sponsors. It's normal for a proper event like this to have at least 6-10 sponsors with a headline sponsor. The reason is to cover costs. EMF only had Red Bull as a beverage sponsor, which means it was completely covered financially through other means. (You know how now).
Tax Payer Money Used. By Thorz on admission, the SL Navy was involved in the stage build up. How did the defense ministry approve this? Why was the Navy involved?
All of these made me believe that EMF was an alleged money laundering operation and I'm glad I was able to say that early on. Thorz is a complete fraud and it sucks that many young kids still believe him because he put up a music festival using alleged black money. In fact those who complained about the lack of standards of the EMF event were hunted down by Thorz, who sent his "fans" after them. Thorz claims he runs a UK registered company called World Artists Management, when it fact UK registration documents show that it's now defunct.
Also, a special shoutout to Yazmin Yousuf on "Y FM" who called out Thorz bullshit early on. In one of his latest posts, Thorz says he wants to do "crypto + event tourism" which should tell you everything you need to know about the fake claims this guy puts out.
