In an uncompressed video transmission, video stream uses 24-bit colour, 720 by 1080 resolution, and the frame rate is 25 frames per second.

    (i) Identify the minimum bandwidth requirement for the effective transmission of the video.
(ii) What is the ratio of bandwidth deduction if the video is transmitted as monochrome?

    (i) The minimum bandwidth requirement for the effective transmission of the video can be calculated using the following formula: (resolution (pixels) x color depth (bits per pixel) x frame rate (frames per second)) / 8 (bits per byte)

    In this case, the calculation would be: (720 x 1080 x 24 x 25) / 8 = 648,000,000 bits per second or 648 Mbps
So, the minimum bandwidth requirement for the effective transmission of the video is 648 Mbps.

(ii) To transmit the video in monochrome, the number of bits per pixel would be reduced from 24 to 1. The ratio of bandwidth reduction can be calculated by dividing the original bandwidth by the new bandwidth.

    In this case, the calculation would be: (648,000,000 (original bandwidth)) / (720 x 1080 x 1 x 25) / 8 = 24
So, the ratio of bandwidth reduction when the video is transmitted as monochrome is 24:1

    (i) To calculate the minimum bandwidth requirement for the effective transmission of the video, we need to determine the total number of bits per frame.

With 24-bit color, the video is using 3 bytes (24 bits) per pixel.

    With a resolution of 720 by 1080, there are a total of 720 x 1080 = 777,600 pixels per frame.

So, the total number of bits per frame is 777,600 x 24 = 18,874,400 bits.

With a frame rate of 25 frames per second, the total number of bits per second is 18,874,400 x 25 = 471,860,000 bits per second.

So, the minimum bandwidth requirement for effective transmission of the video is 471,860,000 bits per second.

(ii) If the video is transmitted as monochrome, it will use 1 byte (8 bits) per pixel.

So, the total number of bits per frame is 777,600 x 8 = 6,220,800 bits per frame.

With a frame rate of 25 frames per second, the total number of bits per second is 6,220,800 x 25 = 155,520,000 bits per second.

    The ratio of bandwidth reduction is (471,860,000-155,520,000) / 471,860,000 = 0.67 or 67%

    2- 1080*720*8*25 Bits per Second
if you need bytes per second divide this to 8

    (i) To determine the minimum bandwidth requirement, we need to calculate the total number of bits per second that are required to transmit the video. This can be done by multiplying the number of pixels per frame (720 x 1080 = 777,600) by the number of bits per pixel (24) and the number of frames per second (25). Therefore, the minimum bandwidth requirement is: 777,600 x 24 x 25 = 31,199,200,000 bits per second or 31.2 Gbps.

(ii) Monochrome video uses only 1 bit per pixel, as opposed to 24 bits per pixel for color video. So, the number of bits per pixel is reduced by a factor of 24. Therefore, the ratio of bandwidth reduction for monochrome video is 24:1.

Doesn't a monochromatic pixel amount to 1-bit? I'm probably wrong on this so can you explain why it's taken as 8-bit?

edit: oh it's in color neh. Stupid question, disregard me.

Monochromic meane single hue or single colour but normally monochromic image containing light intensity values normally it is 8 bit or 256 light intensity levels. But sometimes it can be 24bit, 16bit,4bit even 1bit monochromic images. 1bit is black and white (depends on display older displays have different colours such as green and black) all other are gray-scale images normally we seen on black and white televisions. Therefore Monochromic is not related to color depth. Normal grascale vedios and images have 8bit colour depth. I never watch video containing 2 color. I think you too
