She appointed a <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Commission_of_Inquiry" target="_blank">Presidential Commission of Inquiry</a> into the assassination of Vijaya Kumaratunga on 16 February 1995. The Commissioners were Supreme Court Judges Padmanathan Ramanathan, <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarath_N._Silva" target="_blank">Sarath Nanda Silva</a> and High Court Judge Dharmasiri Jayawickrema.<a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Vijaya_Kumaratunga#cite_note-Politics-14" target="_blank">[14]</a> Upali de Silva was the Secretary of the Commission on Public Administration and its Assistant Secretary was Edward Geeganage.<a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Vijaya_Kumaratunga#cite_note-Special-20" target="_blank">[20]</a>The Commission commenced its hearing on April 14, 1995, and examined the evidence for eight months until December 15, 1995. A total of 72 witnesses testified before the Commission, which consisted of 15 volumes and 3,441 pages.
