Some cancers are good at hiding. A cell can upregulate MHC class 1 antigens in its cell surface  if it is in trouble, like a DNA mutation so that the T cell can latch on to the cell and induce programmed suicide in the cancer cell (apoptosis). But some tumors can hide these MHC antigens by hoarding the proteins inside the cell. But if you are lucky by some chance the T cell manages to detect, it will make the tumor cells commit suicide, hence the mysterious remission of cancer sometimes. Making the immune system detect is actually the best way to kill a cancer and I believe they are researching on a vaccine that makes the T cell detect cancers better - possibly  almost on the verge of a big breakthrough soon</p></blockquote><p></p>
