Here professors are highly encouraged to do research. In fact some excellent profs are removed from teaching undergraduate and they are full time doing research and development. The research is a difficult thing. You have to first study the current knowledge of the world and add top of that. In SL, we did not have access to even IEEE publications those days. Then how to we know that our research is valid or already done by others? </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 15px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 15px">Government and industry fund millions of dollers to research. Even the small companies here support few PhDs and Mscs and lot of collaborations with university. Their students come and work here. In SL, the collaboration between industry and university is very small.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 15px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 15px">In SL, those days profs hardly earning money. Even final year graduates earn more money than profs as their first salary. Some profs do lot of other business (not related to their work). Some do tuition. Some migrate. Some came to university just to teach and go home. It is a extremely frustrated situation. I think now their salary is ok.</span></p></blockquote><p></p>
