Some people find it easy to reduce our story to a sentence. “Married for a green card” or “Married to go to America.”
What they do not see is two people, 19 and 22, who found each other and chose each other before visas, before countries, before convenience.
For five years I was in Japan and he was in the United States. Two countries, two time zones, but one unwavering commitment. Distance tried to break us, and it failed.
We did not fall in love with a passport, a color, or a nationality.
We fell in love with trust, devotion, and a future worth fighting for.
So before you comment about a green card, remember this.
A love that survived oceans does not require your approval.
This was never a story about a country.
It is the story of two people who built a life together, one that distance, opinions, and borders could never tear apart
