Court prohibits taking Wele Suda out of prison after considering mother’s petition
Drug Kingpin Samantha Kumara Vithanage alias ‘Wele Sudha’ has been prevented from being escorted outside of the Boossa Prison. The court of Appeal today ordered that the prisoner shall not be escorted outside of the prison until the 24th of May. The petition filed by Wele Suda’s mother, raising concerns over his safety, had been taken up for hearing today.
The woman had claimed that there were attempts to murder her son, Wele Sudha, and to prevent him from being handed over to the Police. The court’s verdict comes on the back of the deaths of two underworld figures, who were killed while under Police custody recently. The Colombo High Court awarded the death sentence to ‘Wele Sudha’ for the charges of possession of 7.05 grams of heroin, in October 2015.
Wela Sudha was arrested in Pakistan and later deported to Sri Lanka. He was thereafter interrogated by the Police under a three months detention order over his drug related operations. (NewsWire)
