Construction of Polonnaruwa District Secretariat begins
The1,60,000 square foot four storied District Secretariat at Polonnaruwa will be built at a cost of Rs.1500 million. The foundation stone was laid by Home Affairs Minister Wajira Abeywardena.
The construction of this building will be completed before December 2018 and will include a conference hall as well.
He said that it is a historic day for Polonnaruwa as Minister Nawinna started the construction of a museum and information Centre while Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera opened the Indoor stadium and the swimming Pool. All this is a result of President Sirisena’s patience.

Sri Lanka’s Volkswagen project temporarily halted: Minister
Aug 29, 2016 (LBO) – The proposed project to set up a Volkswagen car plant in Sri Lanka has temporarily been halted, Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Development Eran Wickramaratne said.
“Due to the international issues they had to face, they have decided not to invest in this project in Sri Lanka for now,” Wickramaratne told a local TV station.
Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment in April said they helped to secure land for the setting up of the Volkswagen assembly plant with a total investment of 26.5 million dollars.
The project earlier planned to assemble vehicles in the 1000 cc to 2000 cc category which includes passenger cars, Sport Utility Vehicles, Multi Utility Vehicles and commercial vehicles.
In March this year, the US Federal Trade Commission sued Volkswagen for false advertising.
Volkswagen recently agreed to spend more than 1.2 billion US dollars to compensate its dealers for their losses from the automaker’s diesel emissions scandal.

World Bank Vice President visits Sri Lanka for talks on north, local govt support
ECONOMYNEXT – World Bank South Asia Region Vice President Annette Dixon arrived in Sri Lanka Monday on an official two-day visit during which she will hold talks on projects supporting local government service delivery and northern province development, including Jaffna city.
She will be meeting with senior officials including Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake; Governor of the Central Bank Indrajit Coomaraswam; and Justice C. V. Vigneswaran, Chief Minister Northern Province and other officials.
“During these meetings, I hope to continue discussions that I have previously had with the government to further our collaboration,” Dixon was quoted as saying in a statement.
“As Sri Lanka’s largest development partner for over 60 years, the World Bank looks forward to building upon this established collaboration and to continue supporting Sri Lanka’s ambitious development agenda.” said Dixon.
This is her third visit to Sri Lanka since taking office in December 2014. Dixon will be visiting World Banksupported projects aimed at enhancing economic growth and development.
The visit will cover projects supporting local government service delivery, Jaffna city development priorities and opportunities to modernize agriculture in the Northern Province - with a focus on creating livelihood opportunities and increasing productivity.

Volkswagen car plant: Proposal handed over to company

State Enterprise Development Deputy Minister Eran Wickramaratne said today that the process of setting up a Volkswagen car plant in Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala is moving ahead and the BOI had handed over the concluded proposal to the project company.
He said the next step of the process is to build the plant by the project company. “I’m not certain as to how many days it will be but once the plant is completed, the company will start their production,” the minister told the Daily Mirror.
He said the process was lengthy and took time as a suitable land had to be identified, surveyed, and had to be acquired. “Due process had to be followed. Now, the BOI has acquired the land,” he said.
The longer process, he said could be shortened in the future.

කොට්ටාව දෙසින් පැමිණෙන වාහනවලට තලවතුගොඩින් හරවා නුගේගොඩ හරහා ගමනාන්තයට යා හැකියි. මාලඹේ දෙසින් පැමිණෙන රියදුරන්ට කොස්වත්ත ප්රදේශයෙන් මුල්ලේරියාව හරහා ගමන් කළ හැකි බවද මෙහිදී සිහිපත් කෙරුණා.
අදාළ ගුවන් පාලම ඉදිකෙරෙන්නේ රාජගිරිය හා අවට ප්රදේශවල දැනට තිබෙන වාහන තදබදය අවම කිරීමටයි. ඒ නිසා කෙටි කලකට ඇති වන අවහිරතා කාරුණිකව ඉවසන්නැයි රියදුරන්ගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින බවද මහමාර්ග අමාත්යංශය කියා සිටියා.
විකල්ප මාර්ග භාවිතය පිළිබඳ රියදුරන්ට පුහුණුවක් ලබාදීම සඳහා අද (30) දිනයේද රාජගිරිය මංසන්ධියේ වාහන ධාවනයට වරින් වර සීමා කිරීම් සිදුකෙරෙනවා. පාසල්වල 3වන අධ්යයන වාරය ආරම්භ වන හෙට දිනයේ අසාමාන්ය වාහන තදබදයක් ඇති වීම වැළැක්වීම එහි අපේක්ෂාවයි.

පළමු අදියර යටතේ ඉදිකෙරෙන්නේ එක් මන්තීරුවක් පමණයි. එය ද්විත්ව මංතීරුවක්. අනෙක් මංතීරුව සකස් කිරීම ආරම්භ කෙරෙන්නේ පළමු මංතීරු ද්විත්වය ජනතා අයිතියට පත්කිරීමෙන් පසුවයි. රාජගිරිය මාර්ග අංක 177 කඩුවෙල ප්රධාන මාර්ගය සහ බුත්ගමුව මාර්ග එකිනෙක යා කෙරෙන HSBC ගොඩනැගිල්ල ස්ථානය ගුවන් මාර්ගයේ එක් අන්තයක් වනවා. ගුවන් මාර්ගයේ අනෙක් කෙළවර ජනාධිපති විද්යාලය සහ මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස් කාර්යාලය වෙත හැරෙන මංසන්ධිය දක්වා මාර්ග අංක 177ට ඉහලින් ඉදිවෙනු ඇති. ගුවන් මාර්ගයේ සම්පූර්ණ දිග මීටර 558ක් වනවා.
රාජගිරිය ගුවන් පාලමේ ඉදිකිරීම් හෙට (31) සිට ආරම්භ කෙරෙනවා. මේ නිසා රාජගිරිය මංසන්ධිය හරහා වාහන ධාවනයට සීමා පැනවීමට ද සිදුවන බවයි මහමාර්ග අමාත්යංශය පවසන්නේ. අවහිරතා මගහරවා ගැනීම සඳහා හැකි පමණ විකල්ප මාර්ග භාවිත කරන්නැයි එහි ලේකම් ඞී.සී. දිසානායක රියදුරන්ගෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් කළා.
කොට්ටාව දෙසින් පැමිණෙන වාහනවලට තලවතුගොඩින් හරවා නුගේගොඩ හරහා ගමනාන්තයට යා හැකියි. මාලඹේ දෙසින් පැමිණෙන රියදුරන්ට කොස්වත්ත ප්රදේශයෙන් මුල්ලේරියාව හරහා ගමන් කළ හැකි බවද මෙහිදී සිහිපත් කෙරුණා.
අදාළ ගුවන් පාලම ඉදිකෙරෙන්නේ රාජගිරිය හා අවට ප්රදේශවල දැනට තිබෙන වාහන තදබදය අවම කිරීමටයි. ඒ නිසා කෙටි කලකට ඇති වන අවහිරතා කාරුණිකව ඉවසන්නැයි රියදුරන්ගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින බවද මහමාර්ග අමාත්යංශය කියා සිටියා.
විකල්ප මාර්ග භාවිතය පිළිබඳ රියදුරන්ට පුහුණුවක් ලබාදීම සඳහා අද (30) දිනයේද රාජගිරිය මංසන්ධියේ වාහන ධාවනයට වරින් වර සීමා කිරීම් සිදුකෙරෙනවා. පාසල්වල 3වන අධ්යයන වාරය ආරම්භ වන හෙට දිනයේ අසාමාන්ය වාහන තදබදයක් ඇති වීම වැළැක්වීම එහි අපේක්ෂාවයි.

Lanka’s First Tier III Certified IDC at Dialog
Dialog Broadband Network’s Internet Data Center (IDC) achieved ‘Tier III Design Certification’, becoming the first commercial internet data centre in the country to achieve this prestigious certification. Dialog’s Internet Data Centre at Malabe received this certification from Uptime Institute, the globally recognized data center standardization body.
This Tier III designed certified facility is a concurrently maintainable site, which has redundant infrastructure components such as power and cooling infrastructure and network capabilities serving critical environments of the customer.
The data center will be available for commercial operations shortly, and Dialog Broadband Networks also aims to achieve the Uptime Constructed Facility Certification when the new data centre is in operation. The new IDC will become one of Sri Lanka’s largest data centres in operation with over 10,000 square feet accommodating 300 racks for customers.
The new IDC will offer highly-scalable and reliable colocation services to customers and continue to ensure required security and reliability of customer infrastructure.
Dialog currently operates three ISO: 27001 (2013 version) certified data centers, and the new site also will be certified similarly.
