National Hub for Receiving and Redistribution Satellite Data for Earth Observation
From the “Island to Continent,” the launching of “Techno City” was held on Sept. 22,2016 with the honorary participation of Prime Minister Honarable Ranil Wicramasinghe, The Minister of Science Technology & Research, Hon.Susil Premjayantha, The Minister of Mega policies & Western Development Hon.Patali Champika Ranawaka at SLINTEC premises Mahenawatta,Pitipana,Homagama.
During the ceremony on behalf of the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) Acting Director Genaral Ms. Kamani Ediriweera and Deputy Director General (Administration & Finance) Ms. Indra Jayasekara unveiled the project information to launch the setting up of National Hub for Receiving and Redistribution of Earth observation Satellite Data, one of projects undertaken by ACCIMT under this nationally important hoarding mega initiatives.

The ACCIMT has negotiated with a number of international collaborative platforms on space technologies as well as certain other foreign agencies to receive the satellite data free of charge or at an affordable cost. The received data will be stored in a server located at the ACCIMT and will be shared with the public sector organizations who use satellite data for national development. The ACCIMT is in the process of developing infrastructure to receive and distribute earth observation data and a ten acre site for the proposed National Space Hub is identified in the Megapolis Master Plan for Western Province.
The proposed land for Satellite Ground Station at Mahenwatta in Pitipana, Homagama
The 10 Acre land has been allocated for the proposed Satellite Ground Station of Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) to receive Earth observation satellite data at geographical location 6°49′ 38.48″N, 80° 2′ 8.20″E under the Megapolis project of the Government of Sri Lanka and is shown in the Google Earth image bellow. This land is situated in close proximity to the Sri Lanka Institute of Nano Technologies (SLINTEC) and the newly erecting NSBM (National School of Business Management) campus. The land has 4m wide access road with provision for future road widening and 3 phase electricity from National Grid. There is Sri Lanka Telecom premises nearby and will be a potential to have a high speed fiber link in the near future.
At present the proposed site satisfies the 5 Degree elevation clearance above the local horizon, a requirement to have a maximum time span for data reception during a satellite passing by. In order to prevent violating this condition from putting up constructions in the future maximum heights of the constructions around the site is proposed. The following is the proposed heights of the buildings around the site.

2016 ලෝක ජනාවාස දින 30 වන සංවත්සරයට සමගාමීව "සැමට සෙවණ" ජාතික නිවාස වැඩසටහන යටතේ ඉදිකරන ලද සුගලාදේවිගම ආදර්ශ ගම්මානය ජනාධිපති ගරු මෛත්රීපාල සිරිසේන මැතිතුමා අතින් ජනතා අයිතියට පැවරිණි.

NZ to pilot digital dairy farm management in SL
New Zealand media reported Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy to have said that the Farm IQ technology system to be that which captures and analyses data so farmers can better link on-farm practices to farm outputs and revenue.
“The Sri Lankan Farm IQ pilot will specifically measure the impact of dairy farm inputs and practices against milk output, quality and profitability,and will help support overall dairy sector development in Sri Lanka,” Guy said,the media reported.
The initiative is another activity under the Dairy Cooperation Arrangement signed between the two countries.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who visited a Fonterra Factory on Sunday as part of his tour of the country, had firsthand experience of how high tech dairy farms worked.
The Fonterra group; a dairy farmer cooperative produces 22 billion litres of milk a year. Close to 18 billion litres are consumed within New Zealand while four billion litres are exported. Fonterra also has one of the world’s largest factories which have the capacity to produce 200,000 litres of milk a day.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe also met the Fonterra Chairman, John Wilson who provided a tour of his farm to the Prime Minister.

Mihin Lanka merges with SriLankan
All routes of Mihin Lanka would be absorbed to SriLankan Airlines from October 30.
The decision had been made by the government of Sri Lanka, as part of its long-term strategy to restructure the local aviation industry and strengthen the national carrier’s offering and efficiency.
