GHAN and INDIAN PACIFIC in Australia??

I think GHAN (Adelaide-Darwin 3000km) and INDIAN PACIFIC (Sydney- Perth 4000km ) also luxury train journeys. Ghan prices for coming Christmas holidays are ranging from 2300-3700 AUD and Indian pacific 2500-4300 per person.
Economy class air ticket from Melbourne to Colombo is around 1000 AUD, even business class is less than 2300 (Adelaide to Darwin price)
