    සිවිල් යුද්ධයක් කියලා ලේබල් කරොත් මෙහෙම

A civil war can create the conditions for genocide or coincide with genocidal acts, especially if one side deliberately targets a group based on ethnicity, religion, or nationality. However, not all civil wars are genocides, and the presence of genocidal intent is a key legal distinction.

    • Civil War: A conflict between groups within the same country, often over control of the government, territory, or political ideology.

    • Genocide (as defined by the UN Genocide Convention): Acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.

    ත්‍රස්තවාදින්ට එරෙහි යුද්ධයකදි මෙහෙම.

Legitimate military operations that target actual terrorist combatants, without targeting a protected group or intending to destroy it, do not constitute genocide, even if civilians are tragically killed.

    Genocide can:

    ජනසංහාරය ඔප්පු වුනොත් වෙන්නේ වෙන්වී නව රාජ්‍යක් පිහිටුවිමේ අයිතියට හොඳ බලයක් ලැබෙනවා.

    Legitimize claims to self-determination:

If a group has been the target of systematic extermination by the state, it may argue that continued coexistence is impossible and that independence is necessary for survival.

Example: After the Holocaust, Israel was established in 1948 as a homeland for Jews, though the justification was broader than just the Holocaust.

    Draw international sympathy and support:

Genocide can create global pressure that helps a group win political recognition or UN support for independence.

    Delegitimize the parent state:

A state that commits genocide may lose its moral and legal claim to sovereignty over the persecuted region or population.
