Good old days and gentlemanly politicians at that time.
This reminds me an incident some 40 years ago. I was in A/L classes at that time, and wag college and went in to SSC to watch a cricket match with a friend. An "open standing " ticket costs 50 cents, so we pay that and stay in there till lunch, and when match stops for lunch we sneak in to the pavilion and sat in two vacant seats. There were very few people sit in there, but two men sit in our front row took our attention. Only them two and we two are the ones wearing full white clothes. We both in our school uniforms , one of them wearing a full white suite, the other white national suite. They chat with each other in English, laugh, and lots of animation with their hands.
Next thing we realize is, these two people's faces are familiar and try to work out who they are.
ARA NATAIONAL KAARAYAA JR WAGE NEDA ?? I ask my friend, so we both agreed that he is JR, who is the opposition leader at that time.
Then the other one, again I recognize him, SUDU SUITE KAARAYA NM NEDA ??
Yes, he was the finance minister and the chairman of the Ceylon cricket board. They just enjoy each other's company as much as cricket, that's why they not even going out when match stops for lunch.
Unfortunately, such incidents only belongs to the past in our country (politicians are normal people like everyone else in most developed countries) and a normal student in present time may never get an opportunity to watch a game of cricket with very high ranked politicians like JR/NM.
