SriLankan Air Lines that incurred a loss of Rs.9.99 billion last year has already incurred a loss of Rs.6.06 billion for the year ending in March this year. The income of ‘SriLankan’ a year ago was Rs.74.26 billion. However, this has dwindled to Rs.63.36 billion by the end of March this year.
Chief Executive Officer of ‘SriLankan’ Manoj Gunawardene says during the past financial year they could cut down on fuel cost by 35%, maintenance by 19%, cost of food supplies by 3% and landing charges by 13%. The company has incurred this huge loss despite operational charges which was Rs.84.4 billion in 2009 being brought down to Rs.69.2 billion during the last financial year.
