Plot: The screenplay is an adaptation of fantasy author Lord Dunsany's "My Talks with Dean Spanley", a 14-chapter novella published in 1936. The novella is set in Edwardian England, though Dunsany lived in both Ireland and Britain.

The screen story has been summarised as "a surreal period comedic tale of canine reincarnation exploring the relationships between father and son and master and dog"[citation needed], while Peter O'Toole said that the film's use of comedy to explore the relationship between a father and son was part of the attraction for him: "All of us have had these difficult familial relationships and I think it's a film for all of us who understand the relationship between a father and son. It's been interesting watching how various members of the crew have been looking at the monitors during scenes, because they come up to me and say, 'I had the same thing with my father.'

The Last Legion, 2008 DVDrip

The film is narrated by Ambrosinus, native to Britain, who knows of a legend concerning the sword of Julius Caesar, which was hidden away from evil men. It begins shortly before the coronation of Romulus as Emperor in 460.

Having traveled through much of the known world in search of Caesar's sword, Ambrosinus has then become Romulus's tutor. A Druid, he at times gives the impression he is a magician, but his "magic" is just trickery. Romulus's father Orestes apparently rules Rome but is not Emperor himself.

For the rest, watch this fantastic movie that stars the gorgeous ex Miss Universe - Aishwarya Rai, veteran actor Ben Kinglsey and Colin Firth among other luminaries.
