It was rediscovered only after another 4 centuries, when a major restoration happened. These days this temple complex is one of the major tourist points in Cambodia.

    Balaklava is a Ukrainian city that has been chosen as a location for building underground submarine base back in 1957. It was tough enough to survive a direct hit by 100 Kt nuclear bomb. However, it was also abandoned in 1993 and became a museum seven years later.

    This place has been abounded for over 50 years. This town is called Kolmanskop, and it was initially founded as a diamond mining location in 1908. Unfortunately, the resources of this place were exhausted and abounded short after the World War I.

    About 99% of this mall has been vacant since its opening back in 2005. The other 1% of the business folks who were unlucky enough to choose this place are lucky to have at least one customer per week. In other words it is mostly abounded.

    The construction of Ryugyong Hotel began in 1987. Despite looking finished outside, its doors has never been opened. The building of this hotel was stopped in 1992 with the collapse of USSR. This unbelievably gigantic skyscraper counts 105 floors and holds nothing but air inside.

    Thorpe Marsh power station was the prototype built in late 1950s in the United Kingdom. However, 20 years later it was believed to be unsafe. It took authorities another 20 years to finally abound the structure. Since then it wasn't officially used in any other alternative way.

    This castle was build more that 700 years ago and still looks amazing and well-kept. It was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge who served as a knight of Edward III. And now the interesting part - it was always intended to look just like that. You can visit this place by yourself as it went public since 1925.

    The first underwater statue of Jesus Christ was installed between Portofino and Camogli, Italy. The original idea belongs to Duilio Marcante, an Italian diver. Since then multiple copies of this statue appeared all over the world. This particular one was placed near Florida.

    The terrible nuclear Chernobyl accident in 1986 is one of the things that Ukraine is known for. Pripyat is the city that was built for personnel of the plant and their families. The population of the city was around 50,000... before the catastrophe, of course. These days, Pripyat has become even more popular as one of the main attractions in Ukraine.

    This Japanese island has many names in different languages: Hashima Island, Gunkanjima, The Battleship Island or Ghost Island. It is surrounded by more than 500 other islands which are not used as living territory. Gunkanjima was a great coal mining center once but was completely abandoned in mid 1970s. You have probably seen this location in “Skyfall” (2012), one of the latest installments of James Bond universe.

    Some countries in the world still have some incredible post-Soviet architecture left on their territory. One of the most incredible examples are the headquarters of the Communist Party in Bulgaria. This huge structure has been abounded since 1989, when Bulgaria declared itself as a democracy.

    Nara Dreamland is a place in Japan that was obviously inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park. The main difference between them is that Japan have closed this attraction for tourists back in 2006. However, being officially closed by authorities makes this theme park even more attractive for extreme tourism.

    #15 England's Maunsell Forts

    These awkward looking towers were constructed in the times of World War II to protect the shores of England.They were named after Guy Maunsell, their original architect. The fort has been abandoned since the 1950s, but they are still being visited by curious tourists who have boats.
