Pinocchio is an upcoming stop-motion animated musical fantasy film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, based on Gris Grimly's the design from his 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The film marks the animated feature film directorial debut of del Toro.
Synopsis:
The film is a dark and slightly twisted retelling of Collodi’s fairytale about the wooden puppet who longs to be a real boy. Set in 1930s Fascist Italy, this story shows Pinocchio’s dream become a reality as he proceeds to cause mischief and play tricks to his father’s dismay. The overall theme of the movie is love and disobedience as Pinocchio tries to live up to his father’s expectations.
