Two Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ships, "Takanami DD-110" and "Ohnami DD-111", arrived at the Port of Colombo on Wednesday with the Commanding Officer, Escort Division Six, Captain Takaki Mizuma onboard.
The two vessels were returning from a counter piracy operation off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Arden.
"Takanami DD-110" and "Ohnami DD-111" are both destroyers. Each is 151 meters in length and has a displacement of 6,450 tons. Each ship carries a complement of 190 personnel. "Takanami" is commanded by Commander Syouichi Yonemaru while "Ohnami" is commanded by Commander Tsutomu Yoshino.
Both ships will remain in the country tomorrow (Friday) and their crew are scheduled to take part in a series of special programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to strengthen the friendship and goodwill between the two sides, Navy spokesperson Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
