It is a new era for Sri Lankan cricket as Jayasuriya, Vaas and Murali all have hung their boots and now it’s the time for the Green Horns to prosper such as
Dinesh Chandimal, Jeewan Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne,Nuwan Pradeep, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva, Bhanuka Rajapakse, Charith Jayampathi, Angelo Perera, Chathura Peris, Rushan Jaleel, Akshu Fernando, Sachith Pathirana, Sachithra Serasinghe,Sachitra Senanayake, Milinda Siriwardene, Gihan Rupasinghe, Sohan Boralessa, Shaminda Eranga, Nuwan Pradeep,Dilshan Munaweera,Tharanga Lakshita,Shehan Jayasuriya,Kosala Kulasekera, Andri Berenger, Janaka Gunaratne ,Denuwan Rajakaruna,Seekuge Prasanna,Rumesh Buddika,Shalika Karunanayake,Arosh Janoda,Kirthiruwan Withanage and etc. Sri Lanka Cricket should not go again to tried and tested players such as Silva, Kapugedera, Kandamby, Mubarak unless they have performed above others in the Domestic tournaments.
This year’s T20 Domestic League will also give selectors to keep a close eye on players and identify and select the best T 20 suited youngsters and new comers and keep them under the radar, giving them few opportunities in International Level whether A team or the national team, it is a very important step to discover the most talented and consistently performing players and giving them equal opportunities to represent their country.
Sri Lanka starts their T20 League on 21st July and will end 31st July, between these days it is up to the selectors to find young raw talent to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back to a whole new level, India’s doing it very successfully through the IPL so why can’t we.
It will be an important T20 League as it follows in T20Is vs. Australia starting early August, both this T20 series will be a plus in finding the best possible team for the T20 WC in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka have selected young off spinner Sachithra Serasinghe to make debut during this series against Australia and we and want to see more of these exciting and very talented young cricketer’s soon in the T20 International level so that we can see them in the future making it large.
A new era will beckon from now on for Sri Lankan cricket and T20s will be the best way to introduce exciting young talent and the 2012 WC in Sri Lanka should be hand over to the future with the maturity and guidance of the senior players .
A game for the youth should be played by youth and not by old men, so Mr Chief selector please give youngsters more chances in International Cricket, I am sure it will bring very positive results.
Make Angelo Davis Mathews captain, he is young but has very mature brain, we all hope Captain Mathews will lead the team to success in the 2012 T20 World Cup.
