The first reviews of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class have hit the web and we take a look at the S580 variant. With the new S-Class, the German car manufacturer has set out to give it class-leading technology that leaves all of its rivals in the dust. Most of these new technologies can be found in the cabin and, fittingly, the first half of the review focuses on it. Sitting in the center of the dashboard is a massive infotainment system that floats above the touchscreen. Mercedes‘ MBUX infotainment system is superb and extremely comprehensive. However, it is not without its shortcomings and the reviewer expresses reservations about having the HVAC controls in the infotainment screen, while he isn’t a fan of the capacitive control buttons on the doors. In the second row, the new S-Class appears very opulent. It offers lots of leg and headroom and, as with other luxury vehicles that compete in this class, the front passenger seat can slide forward, allowing the rear passenger to put their feet up and recline the backrest. As this is an S5804Matic, it is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system producing a total of 496 hp – more than enough for a vehicle of this kind. When driving the S-Class, the reviewer notes that the four-wheel steering makes it feel much more maneuverable and is also impressed by the advanced augmented reality technology used by the navigation.
