Construction work on the Botanical Garden in the dry zone has reached the final stages. It is the first to be established in a dry zone in Sri Lanka. The Botanical Garden is coming up at Mirijjawila in Hambantota. It spans 300 acres.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa during a visit to monitor the construction was optimistic that the Botanical Garden could be vested in the public during the latter part of this year.
He said that they plan to develop it as a local and foreign visitor centre. It will include ornamental flower cultivation, commercial
flower cultivation and facilities to undertake studies on trees. Deputy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya also joined in this visit.
