Don’t be fooled by the megapixel rating. Some of these cameras use interpolation to blow up resolution, but the actual sensor has a very low res. A 2MP cam is more than enough, because IM applications don’t normally support anything over 640x480 (0.3MP) anyways. Besides you need an extremely good upload speed to stream at anything above 1MP.

I'd say buy a good webcam from a reputed manufacturer. because most cheap unbraded cams perform very poorly under low light conditions.

    Dear Wasanga,
Thank you for contacting Logitech Technical Support. My name is Ryan and I will be assisting you with Incident 090305-004237 .
Wasanga, you might had done some of the processes below but let’s redo again to test whether the issue is caused by hardware or software.
Please ensure that there is no direct light facing towards the webcam. The light should be from behind of the webcam. Improving the lighting conditions can improve the image quality considerably.
    1) Please ensure that the webcam is plugged directly into a USB port on your computer. Please deter from using any by-pass devices such as an extension cable or a USB hub to connect the webcam to the computer.
    2) Please update the Direct X via the link below.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
    3) Ensure that you have updated your Graphic Card driver.
    4) I also would like to suggest that you to disable the antivirus/firewall temporarily to test whether the issue is caused by them.

If the issue persists, I would recommend it that you do a clean install by referring to the article below to resolve this issue. Wasanga,
clean installation is different from normal software reinstallation therefore I would suggest you refer closely to the instructions.
