(<a href="http://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ%3AAAPL" target="_blank">NASDAQ: AAPL</a>) continued to expand its Asian footprint with the debut launch of the iPhone 3GS in South Korea, one of the last countries in the region to get the phone. Based on feedback from retailers it looks like the device, which is available through KT Corporation (<a href="http://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE%3AKTC" target="_blank">(ADR) NYSE: KTC</a>), the country’s number two mobile carrier, had a successful roll-out with about 60,000 units sold on its first day. That figure represents about 15% of the total number of smartphones that were sold in the country (400,000) in all of the third quarter so that appears pretty promising. In spite of the fact that the Korean market offers one of the most advanced set of mobile products and services in the world, smartphones only represent about 1% of the total mobile market.
