An estimated 787 houses have been damaged owing to bad weather over the past two days in many parts of the country, a senior official with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said a short while ago.
The worst affected areas were Batticoloa, Mullativu Polonaruwa, DMC Deputy Director, Pradeep Koddipilli said.
He added that 151 homes were partially damaged and another 46 fully destroyed in the Batticoloa district, 170 in Polonaruwa and 196 in Mullaitivu.
A total of 103 houses were partially damaged in Amparai, 71 in Matale, and 30 in Moneragala, he added.
Most of the damage was caused by strong winds that accompanied heavy rains in the area over the past 48 hours, he said.
The authorities hare proving immediate relief assistance such as dry rations and building materials, Mr. Koddippili said.
