Owing to the work to rule staged by the CPC workers, 90 % of the supply and distribution of fuel had broken down at the Corporation and its outlets. Consequently, there is fuel shortage across the whole Island.
'Lanka e news' had received reports of brawls erupting at the fuel sheds between the employees of the sheds and the huge disappointed crowds which gathered at the sheds to pump fuel.
Because distribution of fuel at the Kolonnawa and other installations have come to a virtual standstill; aviation fuel to planes, supplies to power plants have all ceased. The leader of the CPC Union said, 90% of the supplies had broken down. Even supplies by rails as well as by Bowzers have ceased. The work to rule is a 400% success, the Union added.
The Indian oil Companies China Bay distribution too has completely stopped. Hence, the pumping stations of these Companies too have closed temporarily. Most of the Indian petrol sheds were closed from morning.
Distribution at wholesale Depots had stopped from noon today (24) Refinery, Main office, provincial offices were all closed as the employees in those places had not turned up. By Monday, a massive transport problem is expected, according to reports.
Long winding queues were seen at fuel stations with consumers and vehicle users crowding the sheds while others carrying cans were also standing along.
However, The Minister and CPC officials say, the fuel supplies have not been much affected. Though outsiders were enlisted by the CPC to keep up the supplies and distribution, it is learnt that the CPC is facing unnecessary losses due to this. Besides, these outside employees are inexperienced to handle the operations. Huge losses can occur, sources say due to inept handling.
