A new digital identity card for Sri Lankans from next year

Sri Lanka Department of Registration of Persons is to call for tenders to produce a new digital identity card which is to be introduced to Sri Lanka public from September next year.

The new computerized identity card which is in accordance with the international standards will include details in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages.

The new identity card also includes the finger impression of the holder and many other secret details that cannot be forged, a spokesman of the Department of Registration of Persons said.

when they ask for idetification of SL other then Passport for varifaction of the address...i showed my ID, they ask me what is this...... cos no detials in english then finally i have to bring down my DL to proof. nondi 7

yes machan it will have for the people already have excisting ID, but it will take little time, as i know in HK they also change there ID for an new one with a chip about 4ys back,

with the new ID interduce they formed a new dept to handle excesting ID holder 's renewal, so they call year group (eg: 1960 to 1965) with in 3 months to come and renew. (if they fail, there will be a fine) .

so we also will be able to renew our ID if they change to an Chip ID, but what i'm scard of is.....that not know how long our srilankan governament office need to do this...maby will take life long...!

For information: with this new chip id HK people dos not need there passport to come & go from HK immigration, they used there fingerprint. i also have one.
