Hi all, sorry if i am asking something that have already been asked a lot here :P i searched a bit on the forums but couldn't find a good answer to my problem.

i am mostly in to RTS games.
C&C
World in Conflict
Company of Heroes... etc etc..

I want to be able to play all the latest RTS games with this machine at least for a another 6 months to come. :)

I would prefer a ATI card over a Nividia one in a situation where it really don't matter much for the performance side. ;) but if a nividia card is the best i won't mind buying that.

and i am hoping to run win xp(sp3 hopefully) in the this machine i am going to buy. can someone suggest a good high end PC configuration that can be brought in SL?

my budget can be vary from 50LKR to 80LKR.

thanks a lot :) i will really appreciate any help and guidance on this!
thanks again.

You will need to concentrate more on the raw CPU power, if you are playing RTS. A core 2 duo definitely comes to mind. I am not updated about the current prices though.

2GB RAM is quite normal and cheap too.

Probably something like a 8500GT should do for the VGA. You don't find many ATI cards in that performance range here.

If you wanna overclock the CPU (which would be beneficial for example on Tiberium Wars with 8 Bruital enemies), you should not buy an Intel mobo. Else, Intel is ok. It is preferred to buy a 3rd party mobo as I'm have lost faith in the quality of midrange mobos. If you are not into hardcore overclocking, you can go for an Intel G33 based mobo. There are people who have bought Foxconn G33 mobos who have managed to overclocked to FSB400. And they are cheap too. Best bang for the bug I would say. Comparable Asus mobos sell for around 20k or even more, so it's up to you.

Well, you don't really need a lot of graphics power for RTS, right? 8500GT should be ok. But it depends on the price. If they sell for around 14k, then you better buy that Inno3D 8600GT which is around 15k. Best bang for the buck! Ask from gayannr about the place to buy it.

i am not in love with intel or anything so if Foxconn is good i am really ok with it! i don't have any past experiences with overclocking but i would like to give it a try. i just want to make sure my mboard will be stable and it will support some upgrades in the future... so i am assuming if you can overclock it like that it should be a pretty stable board? does these mboards support SLI gcards? i m just asking. i don't think i will need that...

yes i just need to play the latest RTS games. and does this card manifacure matter? like in the Inno3D 8600GT card. does Inno3D matter? is there any good/bad brands that i should go for or avoid.

What sort of future upgrades are you talking about? You can install a Penyn at best, on a G33 board.

And remember, overclocking is an art. There is a limit to what the mobo can give you. You have a to play a big part in it. (i.e. testing, cooling, PATIENCE)

Card manufacturer doesn't really matter as you are not buying a sub 500USD card. A VGA card will get outdated in a blink of an eye, so no point paying the premium for the "name" when you could save that money for the next card, or something tangible. Inno3D has been there for a while, but not a popular brand here.

And to Chanster, it is the same reason why someone wouldn't why buy a 6600GT over a 7300GT these days. And also, it is just like why you would go a addon audio card to save CPU juice. (G86 takes the video decoding burden off the CPU...INCREDIBLY!)

What about price? 7600GS 512 is around 8500 now....where the 8500GT which offers less gaming performance is over 10k.....I think he wants to buy the card for Games......Tomshardware has tested a 256MB 7600GS n a 512MB 8500GT...Here we get the 512 version of the 7600GS.....

6600GT offers very little performance over the 7300GT.......where 7600GS offers some what satisfactory performance over the 8500GT......

I maybe wrong.......if im wrong please correct me.......

He wants to play new games...DX 10 is necessary isn't it....?? (no offense)

Err....... even for DX10 the 7600GS prevails.....You can play DX10 games even on a SM2 card......

EDIT=FPS not Quality...On the long run....would you like better picture or smooth gameplay?
