2 Gigs of RAM arnd 6-7k
250 SATA 8-10k
8600GT 14k (??)
Casing 3-5k
No idea abt power supplies....
And leave another 10-12k for a good board

I am not an Expert....These are the prices I can remember....
Better ask someone who's in better touch with the subject...

E6750 + Foxconn G33M + 2GB Kingston DDR2-667 + Inno3D 8600GT + 250GB Samsung + 19" Samsung + Case + 500W PSU should do.

You might have to ditch the power supply that comes with case, for a better one. A "OK" power supply would be around Rs.5000. If you want stability, you MUST do this.

But this rig will cost close to Rs.100,000. If you go for a 17" LCD, you will save like Rs.6000. Maybe E6550 will fit the budet. There isn't anything you can actually change, other than the CPU to a E4xxx series, and overclock the crap out of it! (3GHz is not hard to achieve on an E4xxx, and should be comparable with a stock E6750)

about the Inno3D 8600GT, it seems to be having GDDR3 memory, umm shouldn't i go for a DDR memory? or is it nothing that really matters? and when you say a good power sup. how should i ask for one? should i ask them for a power sup with a higher number of Aamps? ;P

GDDR is the graphics version of DDR. AFAIK, DDR2 and GDDR3 are comparable.

Anyway, higher the number, higher the clocks. Even if the stock clocks are identical, the overclocking potential of high number GDDR is greater.

Thus, GDDR < GDDR2 < GDDR3
GDDR is not used anymore. GDDR2 is used on low end models. GDDR3/GDDR4 is used in highend models. Next Generation ATI cards are supposed to have GDDR5.

Oops. Saw this after replying :D

About the PSU. Most n00b salesmen don't know anything about the amperage. Here is a simple guide to follow. http://www.firingsquad.com/guides/power_supply/

The Inno3D u can buy from here is shipped with GDDR2(Not sure whether it's DDR2 or GDDR2 since 3 utilities show it differently :P),But from Inno3D's naming convention I guess it is GDDR2,not sure though :(

Ask for a server power supply. All these good power supplies should have a fan on the bottom which sucks in the hot air around the CPU and an exhaust fan to take out that heat + heat generated within the PSU. If there aren't dual fans, it is definitely a piece of crap.

Go for a 500W PSU. Then you might at least end up having 350W real wattage :P

And look for the price too. They can't be cheaper than Rs.5000. If they are, surely thatis a crap :D (but of course anyone can sell anything at a higher price :P)

is it possible ask the people in shops for the specs? like how much Peak Amps can flow on the 12v rail in this power sup? Oo

ok then i will ask for a server power sup :)

and what about the motherboard you suggusted, can i buy it from any shop in unity or is there any specific place ?

thanks

what i meant putting a new video card etc etc by "upgrading". and nothing fancy :D well i am not in a situvation to have 'fun' overcolcking i guess because i am too busy :( so you can assume that i won't try overclocking :(

basicaly, i want this machine to let me play all the latest strategy games for at least 6 months. so thats why i asked for a higher graphics card... do you feel that the graphic card that you suggested will be enough for RTS games?

and how much would this setup cost me?

1. core 2 duo
2. casing and a good power sup that will be ok with some 'heavy graphics card(may be in the future if i decide to upgrade?)
3. 19 acer flat screen(is this a dumb choice? :P)
4. a good mboard(please suggest something, i won't attempt overclocking...)
5. 2gigs of RAM(does the brand matter? is there any speed/type that i should consider?)
6. keyboard mouse and a dvd writer

i got a S.B 5.1 card and a speaker system... so i am planning to use it with this...

thanks anusha for the grate help provided :) and all the others too.

please pardon this newbie for asking stupid questions :D i read a online vid card review at http://www.gamespot.com/features/6173135/index.html
they say this card gives the best value for money... how about this? is this a bad choice... is it possible to get this in lk?
GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB

thanks :)

8800 is here for 60k. Price will eventually go down.

You can't ask about specs of the PSU. You can ask him to show it to you and you can figure it out from the label. (but the labels are fake on low quality mobo's). When you look at a PSU, you can generally feel if it is crap or not. Well, it is not a correct way to judge the PSUs, but this is Sri Lanka!

You can get the mobo from Barclays or NuNet (both are Foxconn agents for Sri Lanka). NuNet it opposite to Sala Enterprises in Paamangkada.

Well since u r budget constrained its hard to go for an ASUS mobo since ASUS centre /EPSI has only high end mobos these days(Wait few weeks if u can,but cant be sure). Foxconn is being popular,I'm using a "Foxconn G33M" mobo, using it for 2 weeks only so can't tell much about it.But it's feature rich considering its Price-10500Rs(Bought from Barclays),OCing features are not rich as on high end mobos but not a complete disaster either.:D
and about RAM,1GB Kingston 667MHz stick would be around 2700Rs(Could OC it to running @960MHz- stable.)

anusha: where is Barclays? i guess its some where in bamba? it would be easy for me to go there. and what if i can expand my budget to something like 120, 000 LKR :P what would you change in the setup? it will take me approx 3 months to get the funds(120...) so you assume that i will be buying it after three months.

gayannr: sorry again for been a noob :P but whats it with asus boards? are they better? if my budget is something like 120, will you change anything that you have suggested?

thanks people :)

ps: after all getting a new rig is not a easy thing at all!!! :D
