my personal opinion,

if ur in SL dont buy ATI unless U have AC :( Becuase ATI good cards are very powerful & hence release a hell of a lot of heat & if not cooled properly it will burn out very soon. Trust me coz this happend to many of my friends including me. :(

Now adayas Nvidia cards are very good so you can go for a Nvidia :)

if you rely on RTS rather than FPS then concentrate on a good CPU. 2GB memory would be sufficient for now.

FYI - Win XP 32 bit edition with a 32 bit cpu can handle a maximum of 4GB memory

Believe me,it will not run like that even though it is said.It will however will run @ 1200MHz on looser timings or screwup some other thing.
Of course. The profiles are like 1000MHz/4-4-4-12 and 1200MHz/5/5/5/15 etc. :D

Like I said, this is a pure marketing scam.

1. ATI cards may run hot, but they don't burn at those temps. If they run up to 90C, don't be scared. They can handle that temperature.

2. If you don't go for the new HD4xxx series cards, nVidia cards are still better value for the money.

3. True that RTS will mostly rely upon the CPU, but I don't see the point in building a PC with Rs. 200k and not incorporating heavy graphics capabilities.

4. Windows XP or Vista 32bit cannot use 4GB. It can use somewhere in between 2.5GB to 3.25GB, depending on the other devices.

when deciding on a processor, is it worth going for a quad ? i mean does many games utilize 4 logical processors? because if many games are still not utilizing it i think i can go for a E8400/E8500?

It should for RTS, but have to check reviews on that

i checked some stuff at tomshardware. 8500 outperforms q6600 in games/RTS... but i think in the long run Q6600 will still be a good investment...? as new games will take advantage from the 4 cores...

Can't tell anything for sure. Maybe. I think this is where you have to trust your instincts. More and more multicore support is coming in though.

this is it:
Q6600
foxcon mars
8800GTS :P 9600 wasn't there... actually there weren't anything else that i knew to be 'good' like nothing that was mentioned in reviews... by you guys... etc etc. so i went for that. was 45k :baffled:
17 flat CRT! :D
4 GB kingston ram 667
had a new hitachi HD 500g.. so used it to build the new rig...
samsung dvd writer...
450w power sup, it was a bit heavy and cost me about 5k. i don't think its the best i could buy... i mean it was only 5k. but still its better than what was included with the casing.
foxcon casing. took the largest one that was there...

i guess thats it....

not anything near perfect i know but hey... this is first time i went along and brought something this expensive! :D and btw i brought the parts home(from two different locations, barklyies(WRONG spellings) + leader...), and assembled them! and that was a another first for me! lol me and bro(13) assembled out first rig that was sweeeeet! it took like 3 hours!
now hey i know assembling a PC isn't much for you guys but i am noob to all these hardware stuff... :)

running xp sp3... gonna put, ubuntu in too... now.
