The story is set in the spring of 1945 when Berlin City was destroyed in bombings and the German Army was razed. As the city waited to be ravaged further by the arriving Russian troops, an anonymous female reporter (Nina Hoss), along with several other women tried to hide in the city, fearing rape and abuse at the hands of the Russian soldiers. However, when the worst nightmares of the women seemed to be coming true, the anonymous reporter decided to use her knowledge of the Russian language, to win the favor of a Soviet officer, with the hope that he would protect her from his subordinates.
