Why would you need it if you have a router? Doesn't the router make the connection by itself?

You don't need an auto connect software for a router. The router will automatically establish the connection and will give your PC an ip address once it's connected thru the LAN port. I'm planning to buy a router as well, but not a wireless one, because I've fed up with looking for Vista x64 supported drivers for my ADSL modem. I doubt there will ever be such drivers. Not even for XP x64. The modem is the only thing that's preventing me from moving to 64-bit computing

I don't know for sure. I think there is a connection reset timeout. I think the router pings a site every now and then and if there is a problem with the connection, it might try to reset the connection.

Does anyone know where to find a router for around Rs.6000? I would only need a maximum of two ports. I need a reliable, but cheap router. But it better support ADSL2+. Who knows if SLT will give away those connections soon?

dont worry the adsl line doesnt drop like an dial up connection
    there are 2 types
    adsl modems
    adsl routers

they 2 does the same job the adsl modem can be used when only v need the connction, it connects to the usb

the router can be programed it connects to the lan and the connection is always swiched on no need to connect..

Hey bro 2 port routers nam naha. 4 thama minimum. Machan ADSL2 denna issara wela they have to full fill huge ADSL wating list.

Machan for 6000buks u can buy PLANET 4 port router.

    But i recommend only U.S Robotics or D-Link ( SL only )

    U.S Robotics - 8000+/-
