ALARMING SITUATION IN DENIYAYA, SAYS TISSA: NO, SAYS DILAN

    October 04, 2009:
A tense situation has arisen in Deniyaya with Tissa Attanayake, General Secretary of the United National Party alleging that an alarming situation is prevailing in an area where a road had been built with state resources, and Dilan Perera, Minister of Port Development refuting the charge stating that that there's no such tense situation.
According to Tissa Attanayake, UNP supporters had converged on an area where a road had been build with public money.

Of course no permission had been obtained for a procession but this is a road built with public money. The owner of the house is claiming that it is a private road and has blocked the road Deputy minister Dilan Perere was also there. As a result our supporters and vehicles are unable to move out from the area,” said Attanayake.

“Some media personnel were also harassed,” Tissa claimed.

However, Dilan Perera dismissed the charge saying that it was he and his supporters who had been obstructed from proceeding to the house due to UNP supporters and vehicles blocking the road.

“The President is coming to Matara this morning for a meeting and we are engaged in propaganda activities in Matara. When we were arriving at Thusitha Ranawaka's residence for tea, we found the road blocked with UNP supporters and their vehicles. There were about 20 vehicles and it was, in fact my security personnel who helped get their vehicles out of the area.

“Mr. Attanayake cannot obstruct my right to go to a house. As for media personnel, I did not even see any,” Dilan said.
