So no more global shopping spree for us, isn't it
Not quite, nothing really changed for platforms like eBay and Amazon.
AliExpress standard shipping could clear a bulk of personal items duty free so we got 100% free shipping and clearance, problem is that there was no way to distinguish bulk commercial imports from shipments like these so bulk importers abused the system meant for personal imports
Once that channel was closed AliExpress items were subjected to the usual taxation so now Aliexpress charges a fixed 50% prepaid tax if you want them to clear your parcel for you.
The real tax could be as low as 5% but you still have to pay a 50% prepaid tax to AliExpress (which is fair by the way, we can't expect AliExpress to maintain a database of HS codes and relevant tax amounts charged by Sri Lanka so they could charge us the precise tax amount)
