International Bhikkhuni Day commemorates Mahapajapati - the first Buddhist Nun that ordained with the Buddha  and the founder of the order of Bhikkhuni's- fully ordained Buddhist nuns. Buddhist nuns, like Buddhist monks are committed to integrity, simplicity, meditation. In so doing they show the way to peace, joy and contentment. In this way, the life of a monastic exemplifies the joys and freedoms that the Buddha said are possible to attain.  This will be a great opportunity for the Sangha of monastics and lay people to come together, affirm refuges and precepts, share and discuss Dhamma, meditate and to feel the joy of generosity by offering support so that Bhikkhunis have basic needs for their vihara's - monastic residences. This support is based on the principle  of interdependence - that we all have needs and can support each other in particular ways. When we do this for the purpose of understanding peace, joy and happiness, a field of blessings and support is generated. This event is a rare opportunity.
