The Amawessa Ranavirisu Adhistana pooja succeeded in foiling Valentine Day marketing gimmick planned by Sirasa television / radio station (Maharaja Group) on February 14. Sirisa had arranged for young couples to visit the Vihara Maha Devi Park dressed in red and carrying red roses.
But Amawessa organizers did the very opposite. They told participants to come dressed in white, carrying lotuses and to the same place Vihara Maha Devi Park. This counter move compelled the Valentine vendors to cancel their commercialized 'love' carnival.
This year's Amawessa organized by the Jaathika Sangha Sammelanaya, (National Sangha Conference) was dedicated to our heroic armed forces.
